History of the Program

Lake Oswego Water Polo Organization (LOWPO), formerly known as Iron Mountain, continues to gain in popularity, but we would love to see the program grow even more Water polo was the first team sport to be included in the Olympic Games in 1900 (women were added in 2000), but it is a relatively new sport in Lake Oswego. Water Polo programs started at Lakeridge High School in the 1990s and Lake Oswego High School in 2000, but at the time there was no youth program to feed the high school teams.  A group of parent volunteers decided to start the Iron Mountain Water Polo club in the spring of 2001 in order to fix this problem and provide younger players with the opportunity to learn and grow in the sport.  LOWPO continues to be a recreational program focused on developing fundamental skills. The club now is open to girls and boys throughout the Portland metropolitan area from grades 3 through 12.
